Rescued puppies
As I wrote before in my "A special place in hell" post, my wife rescued two tiny pups from the road where they had been abandoned in the middle of a rainstorm during Monsoon. We decided to bring them home, feed them, clean them up, get their shots done and then turn them over to a deserving family. As a pair of females. I offered to pay for all vet care for at least a year.
Hah! No one in India wants a pair of female road dogs, and I do mean no one.
So, what to do? Here are the little ones within 2 days of their arrival.
At this point we had no idea what they would eventually look like, but they needed de-worming, shots, food and a warm and dry place to chill out for a while. We still held out hope that someone would want the pair, but that supposition faded as time went on.
So we watched Ruby and Rani grow, which they did rapidly. We already have a 48kg Rottweiler, a real baby (but don't tell the villagers that!), and we kept the girls separated from their Uncle Jojo who lived upstairs. He seemed to like them well enough, albeit from a distance, but we did not know how he would react with two squirmy pups underfoot.
One day we accidentally left the gate to the downstairs open and lo they met.
Jojo was excited, curious and quite unsure how to behave. We had never socialized him since none of the neighborhood dogs had ever seen an injection, so he led a very sheltered life with us and consequently his dog skills were limited. Basically, he thought he was human, although he was a very capable terrace guardian of the small herd of milk cows next door. Something that Rottweilers were bred for by the Romans more than 2000 years ago.
He took an immediate, and a bit rough liking to Rani, the slightly shorter of the two girls, he dragged her under him with his paw and then stood there trying to figure out what to do next. We were somewhat apprehensive, 48kg vs 9kg, but as with all females, she controlled him and did not allow certain liberties to be taken. Both girls are quite used to him and they visit each other frequently, but we still keep them separate until they have had their operations done. There would be no controlling a Rottweiler with an erection and things would go badly.
Here are the girls, with their chief caretaker. Our vet firmly believes that they have German Shepherd genes. Judge for yourself. They are very affectionate.
As I said, they are very affectionate!
The left one is Ruby (Otherwise named Licky, for obvious reasons) and Rani on the right, is a bit more reserved, but a superb watchdog and definitely controls Ruby when they play. They have turned into beautiful mini German Shepherds, although they are only 7 months old now, so we hope they get taller eventually.
Within the next month, we will get them fixed and that should calm down their uncle a bit, we hope. They are part of our household now. More later....
Great job 🤗💕you guys real Angel 😇
