Great value bookshelf speakers at a low price
I have spent days researching a list of speakers to recommend to a friend of mine. His budget is less than Rs 25,000/-.
He is willing to go passive or active speakers.
Another friend has an amp I dearly love, Fosi Audio BT30D Pro with a 32V power brick. He drives an old pair of B&W bookshelf speakers with that and they get loud!! (I recommend the amp!)
Methodology (Reference sites I checked for speakers in budget)
Audiosciencereview.com
Erinsaudiocorner.com
Rtings.com
Stereophile.com
Whathifi.com
I respect the top two because they use some very advanced gear to test speakers with and I find their recommendations to be based on both subjective (listening) and objective (measuring) data.
I looked at 63 speakers, including ones not available in India.
I ended up with a recommendation for 9 top ranked speakers.
Active and Passive.
All would benefit from a sub-woofer because of their somewhat diminutive sizes, but they should fill up a medium sized room very well. If you wanted to set up a theater surround sound system, you will not go wrong with any of them. Add a Yamaha NS-SW0500 Rs 15,500/- Sub-Woofer and it will be a truly remarkable system.
I am ranking this list by price. My own choices are starred, but please look for detailed reviews on the websites above before buying.
***Kali Audio LP-UNF 24K
JBL A130 21K
ELAC Debut 2.0 B6.2. 18K
*NEUMI BS5 (Powered) 18K
*Pioneer SP-BS22-LR 17K
**NEUMI BS5 14K
EDIFIER R1280T 12K
**MICCA MB42X 10K
Best bang for the buck are the NEUMI BS5 and MICCA MB42X by far. They are universally acclaimed by all reviewers, which is quite rare! The loudest are the JBL, but they require a bit of EQ to correct a couple of frequency bumps. The Pioneer plays completely flat but not that loud. If I had the money, close to the budget top, the Kali Audio is a no brainer.
