What does Pierre do?
Pierre came to India in 2004. Specifically, Gurgaon. He was Director of the first India-USA joint venture capital funded International call centre in India.
His responsibility was to set up the call centre, get IT infrastructure set up, train the first group of call executives, etc.. He was busy.
After opening 2 more centres in Gurgaon, Astra Business Services decided to open one up in Dehradun and asked Peter to do so, again. So he did.
One of the people he met was Imran, Nalini's son, who had been educated in the States and they became friends. Not something normally encouraged among a Director and an employee.
One day Pierre complained that he had absolutely no one to talk to over lunch who was not involved with the call centre business. imran said:"How about my mom?" Pierre looked at 90kg, 6ft Imran and tried to picture the mother who had given birth to him. Imran showed him a long distance picture of Nalini and she didn't look like an ogre, so a luncheon was planned by Imran at a boutique resort next to the village that they lived in.
They met on Sept. 13, 2007 at 1:30pm and by 2pm Pierre was smitten.
Meanwhile, Astra had been sold and the American managers had been offered free rides back to the US. Pierre had nothing there to hold him, so he decided to stay with his new love.
He worked for Chintels India Ltd. in Delhi for about one year when Imran died and Nalini wanted to flee back to Dehradun. So they did. However, the chairman of Chintels, Ashok Solomon had also become a friend and asked if Pierre could manage the foundation that he had set up in his mother's name and the activities that he wanted to do in Uttarakhand. Pierre has been doing that for Nora Solomon Foundation and the Baptist Church Trust Association ever since. He is not a Baptist, but admires the honest and effective charitable work that they do all over India.
